The Importance of Aiming Headlamps:

HISTORY OF THE HEADLAMP
Beginning in the mid to late 1980's, automotive headlamps began to take new shapes and new beam patterns.  Automotive stylists began to design cars with aerodynamics in mind which, caused a significant change in headlamp cosmetics.

Contrary to the old round or square sealed beam lamp which was the current standard for all lamps, headlamps began to take on a sleek, aerodynamic look.

Recognizing the need for safer driving and better illumination of the road, brightness of the lamps began to increase significantly.

Composite plastic designs with halogen removable bulbs and fixed lamp assemblies with adjustable reflectors began to replace the old sealed beams.  The auto stylists also wanted to get rid of those unsightly aim pads of the surface of the lens.

Facing these new headlamp styles, optics engineers were met with real challenges.  Beam patterns began to vary significantly. Many lamps still retained the aim pads for mechanical aimers, but little correlation existed between mechanical and optical aim.

The day of the old mechanical aimer is rapidly disappearing with the demise of the aim pads on the lamp lenses and the movement to the newer lamp styles.

AIM YOUR HEADLAMPS, OPTIMIZE YOUR LIGHTING
Therefore, we at Buehler Automotive & Transmission, Inc. have purchased a “Hoppy Vision 100" Professional Optical Headlamp Aimer to be able to set the lamp at it’s optimum setting using the optical beam of light.  The lamp will be aimed correctly and consistently, improving the forward lighting.  The equipment will also check the light intensity of each headlamp.

Don’t let your headlamps wreck your evening drive.  Let us check and optically adjust your headlamps.  We aim for safer driving!
